Andalucia Day 42 Cordoba some more
An early start again and we immediately realise there's something strange, there's nobody about.....consuting the Internet as we walk we soon find out why: it's another (!) día de fiesta, San Raffaele, just in Cordoba, so shops, schools and businesses are closed. Back to the Mezquita, too beautiful not to spend another three quarters of an hour gazing at splendor, as captivated as if we hadn't been there just the day before.
After we wander along the river around the historical centre. Actually we are aiming for the art gallery and archeological museum but in the end we don't get there until half past eleven. Cordoba is full of things to look at, the famous patios, the ancient walls, parks, flowers, each way you turn there's something beautiful to see. The art gallery is quite small and is quickly visited, the best part is perhaps the patio outside it.
The archaeological museum is bigger and more interesting, especially the part about the mosaics. For lunch we go to Bodegas Mezquita, a sort of local chain of restaurants and have a menu del día between us, special fried aubergines, rabo de toro which is now one of our favourites and cake typical of Cadiz.
In the afternoon we go to Casa Palacio Viana which is famous for its patios and is free on a Wednesday afternoon, very nice because there are 12 patios in one place, each of a different style but none in particular I could say was spectacular.
After, we wander around the centre but the shops are mostly closed, also we are alarmed to discover that also the food shops and supermarkets are closed. Fortunately the campsite has tuna, green beans and water and the stock of wine is good so we are ok until tomorrow.......
