Andalucia Day 46 Cabo de gata las Negras
The day gets off to a quiet start, we leave our accommodation without regret and walk along the seafront for a while. The colder weather has caught up with us and the wind is quite cold. To warm up we have an extra half breakfast, for me a tostada with tomato and olive oil and freshly squeezed orange juice, for Andrea coffee and a churro.
It's still early to arrive at the campsite but we decide to make a start anyway.
We arrive at La Caleta Campsite at Las Negras to a welcome much warmer than the wind. We decide for a cabana, it costs just 32 euros per night and has everything one could possibly need in a clean cosy wood building, excellent value for money, the whole campsite is clean quiet and tidy. The weather forecast is not good and a tent is not enticing.
After we have settled in we have a very late lunch and then start to explore the coast. The environment is dramatic: harsh mountains just tinged with green from the recent rain which tumble steeply into the sea.
The campsite is right behind a pretty cove but we continue along a path along the coast to the next beach. Spectacular views of the hills and sea, we are in the Cabo de gata natural park.
The different types of rocks are contorted and compressed and the land changes every few dozen metres. The clouds and the setting sun give a deep blue colour to the sea but also to the sky.
Winter time started last night and the sun is already setting and the wind which has brought rain and snow to half of Spain is bitter when it comes in gusts, we scurry back to our warm cabin, passing the campsite swimming pool still open as proof that this weather here end October is not normal. A hot shower and some Pedro Ximenez later we are as snug as a bug in a rug as they say.
