Andalucia Day 4 Empuriabrava
Empuriabrava is the largest residential marina in Europe, which means that there are houses and apartments with an access road on one side and a canal with boat mooring on the other over more than 40 km of canals. Construction work on what was originally a swamp was initially planned in 1964 and completed in 1975.
Let's say that it's an unusual place, worth visiting if you're in the area, but while there are some nice glimpses of canals with villas and trees it is a destination mainly for those interested in boats and sailing, more cosmopolitan than Spanish.
Empuriabrava |
We visited Empuriabrava because it is next to the campsite just inside Spain where we decided to stay a couple of nights to break up the long journey south: Rubina resort - excellent facilities, from plentiful hot water in showers and dish-washing area, super-clean toilets, spacious plots, swimming pool and gym, about 15 minutes on foot to the centre of Empuriabrava. We spent, for car, tent, electricity and water tap on site 25 euros low season per night. The nearby beach is sandy and pleasant, good for walking too.
We spend a long morning walking around, then the first caña y tapa of the holiday.
