Andalucia Day 3 Ventimiglia to Empuriabrava

The only slow aspect of our travels today is when we get stuck in a bouchon (a new word to add to the meagre remnants of my secondary school French) somewhere between Nice and Arles. There's no apparent reason for such a long traffic jam except for what the French motorway website calls intense traffic. We sit rather chastened at the idea of having undertaken such a long drive in one day, until it gets moving and then get in the wrong lane at  the toll station. This has the advantage of obliging us to find out how to pay French motorway tolls with a credit card we have never even used. Surprisingly, it works, and at the threat of another bouchon we make a detour off the motorway down a narrow country road lined with plane trees and then an empty N road, which inexplicably cheers us up, before rejoining the motorway.
We stop for a late picnic lunch at one of the many Aires and then set off among dwindling traffic to Spain. We arrive at Rubina Resort in Empuriabrava in time to go to the Spanish supermarket Mercadona to buy fish and our favourite Spanish sweet end to a meal:  Tortas de aceite de Ines Rosales, a sort of sweet slightly crunchy wafer (also sold by Lidl during Spanish week although not those by Señora Rosales! )

Tortas de aceite de Ines Rosales

Kilometres by car: 601.
Kilometres on foot: 3, of which 2 1/2 up and down Mercadona's aisles looking for Tortas de aceite.
