Sardinia in May Hike north from Porto Ottoliu
Wednesday is our last day and in the morning we go for a walk along the coast north from Porto Ottoliu. The path starts off well, with the 100 towers symbol and a wide and clear path, but it soon narrows into a one-way with brambles encroaching, especially once we get to a small seaweed-filled bay called Polto Quatu where there are a couple of people snorkelling. After that it’s either along the rocks, with a bit of scrambling, or the even narrower path through the undergrowth with a lot of scratches, although the myrtle is flowering which is pretty. We go with the path and come back along the rocks. There’s a nice view of Tavolara and it seems the path continues because we meet a man half-running in the opposite direction but it’s quite hot so we give up and go back. The wind seems to have disappeared and by the time I get back to the car, I’m boiling. Again, we stop in Budoni to get food, also for the ferry journey back the next day and then after a rest and tidying up and packing I have a last swim at Porto Ainu. The seaweed has cleared a little from the part of the bay which is just the right depth and I enjoy it.
