Sardinia in May Capo Comino Hike from Spiaggia Il Moletto to Spiaggia Tamerici

On Monday we head south, but not first thing because we are undecided as to whether to go north to see the area around Golfo Aranci. But we are worried it will be too busy and so we drive to Spiaggia Il Moletto, near Capo Comino and where we drank a coffee last year. We park at Spiaggia Il Moletto at about 10 o’clock and from there walk along the traces of the Roman road towards the Lighthouse. The path continues, according to Wikiloc. This time I have left the picnic in the car because the forecast is for temperatures to increase and I reason we won’t wanting to be walking back in the heat in the fierce sun mid-afternoon. Also, I don’t know how easy it will be to find the path.

This time I am wrong, on this section of the coast the path is well defined and easy to follow. It’s quite wide in places and in others the undergrowth has been cleared back, brambles removed and grass cut. So we make much better progress than we expected and probably could have got as far the Spiaggia Berchida (which we’d visited by car on Thursday). Except the picnic and water (except for a small bottle and a packet of taralli) are back in the car and it really is quite hot.

We walk as far as Spiaggia Tamerici. Which, from the amount of prickly plants growing in the sand, probably doesn’t get a lot of visitors. Although, just behind the beach in the shade of the pinewood where the dirt road passes there is a very pleasant picnic area with tables and benches. Now we know where we are going, as always, it’s a lot quicker walking back. About 40 minutes from Spiaggia Tamerici to the lighthouse, plus about ten minutes along the road to Moletto. The Bar/restaurant is closed because it’s Monday. So we drive back to the lighthouse and find a shady spot under a tree with a view of the sea. The are some stones as seats and it’s a pleasant and cool place for a picnic. Some of the forestry workers who were taming the undergrowth have had the same idea.

Afterwards, our intention was to go to the beach with our umbrella and lounger, but the sun is strong, the wind is strong, the beach that end is full of seaweed. We give up and decide to move on by car to look for somewhere else. But now it’s over 30 degrees and the sun feels top fierce and it’s hot and we can’t really find a place we like. We do stop to see the small village of Santa Lucia and the tower which is nice, but in the end come back to the apartment to relax in the cool.

Santa Lucia, Sardinia
We don’t go out again until about 5.30 when we go to Porto Ainu, where the wind has churned up the sea weed and I swim because it’s still hot, but there’s seaweed everywhere and also the smell isn’t ideal. But then out of the water, finally the sun has mellowed and the breeze is warm and we relax on the beach until past 7 o’clock.
