Naples in October - from Agropoli to Naples

On Saturday the wind has dropped and as we wander around Agropoli for a last walk in the morning it's really very pleasant and warm.

On our way to Naples we stop at Tenuta Vannulo as suggested by our host. This turns out to be an excellent idea. The Tenuta raises buffaloes and has created a high-quality "experience". There's the caseificio where you can buy mozzarella di bufala, ricotta, everything you want which is buffalo-based to take away, and also look through the windows of the dairy itself to watch the various products being made, the yogurteria which is really a café selling yogurt, cakes, ice-cream, brioche and drinks, a small agricultural/ethnographic museum of farm equipment and associated items, a chocolate producing laboratory, a leather workshop and shop.....oh and you can also get right up close to the buffaloes themselves. Obviously, we do....

........then turn our attention to trying the products.

This is our lunch break so there's no need to be shy, we order two cappuccinos, one bowl of vanilla yogurt and one of malt, and three slices of different cakes - one ricotta and pear, one apple and cream and one ricotta and chocolate with a sort of crumble topping. Total cost €12.50.

I may have exaggerated!! I'm not used to eating such a lot of sweet stuff, but I take it slowly.....

Verdict: all very good, but top marks for the yogurt.

We continue on our way to Naples. Our apartment is quite central. Good for when we will be there but not so good to arrive by car. We plan to arrive at about 2pm hoping it will be a little quieter. I'm driving as usual, Andrea is navigating, I'm not sure which is worse, but we make it.

I can't say much about the apartment, the car is happy because parking is in an enclosed courtyard. I'm not, although it could have been worse I do realise. Fortunately I find a half-full bottle of bleach and there's a vacuum cleaner and the state of the apartment is not Naples' fault I do realise that too.

We eventually go out for a first look at the city. Hmmm. Perhaps I'm not used to cities any more, but San Lorenzo Maggiore is a beautiful Gothic church right in the centre and is surprisingly beautiful.

We also have a quick look at the cathedral, but we will be going back anyway. There are hordes of people around so we go back to the apartment, stopping in a minute shop for a few basics. Perhaps I'm just tired but I have the impression it could be a long week.
