Sardinia in May Day 6 Budoni beaches
The day starts at Porto Ottoliu and immediately gets off to a good start because the (free) car park is full of mulberry trees. I make my usual phone calls while Andrea collects mulberries - dark black and pale yellow are good but the best are the ones a light purple colour. We head south along the coast and after a couple of coves arrive at a wooded area on the headland called Parco del Sole. There are robust stone picnic benches and tables and a fitness course made for giants, preferably already fit ones. It's a pleasant walk around the promontory on a dirt track, an easy walk to the stagno of Li Cuppulati where there are flamencos and other birds. Very pleasant indeed.
We go back to the car and stop at Eurospin gastronomia section for chicken wings and Arancini to make a change from the usual bread, tomatoes and cheese and then drive to the pineta Sant'Anna for our picnic. There are no benches but it's shady and pleasant with a great view of the Sant'Anna beach.
We realise a beach bar half way down the beach is open, so after I've taken the picnic things back to the car we go for coffee. Sa Capanizza also does pizza, with a proper wood fired oven. A Margherita is 7.50€ but we've already eaten and stick with coffee. Afterwards we walk to the Porto Ainu beach, there are birds on the rocks near the shore, but by now we're a little tired of walking along beaches. The far end looks nice but the rest is occupied by seaweed so we give up, get the car and spend the rest of the afternoon in the only sheltered section of Isuledda beach, an attractive strip of sand in the middle of nowhere. The wind is bothersome so we don't walk all along the beach. At six it's time to go home and pack up. The next day we're moving on.
