Sardinia in May Day 11 Rena Maiore - Cala Pischina hike and Santa Reparata
We drive a little way out of Santa Teresa, to Rena Maiore. We spent a fortnight there quite a few years ago. We park near the beach. The lines are blue but there are no parking meters yet. There's a pretty and easy walk south along the coast. It's cooler and cloudy this morning which makes walking easier. The big purple flowers we remember have mostly finished flowering but there's still a lot of colour and the Armeria is particularly beautiful. We walk as far as Cala Pischina and then turn back. We stop a while on the Rena Maiore beach before going to pick up some rather overpriced calamari for lunch, although I must admit they are delicious!
The early morning clouds have cleared and it's a beautiful day. We laze in the apartment and on the balcony and then walk down to the Santa Reparata bay area, which takes us all of 5 minutes. The first beach, partly sheltered from the wind has parking which is still free in May and is called Spiaggia Zia culumba. To the other side of the road is a bigger and even more beautiful beach where I swam many years ago called Rena di Ponente. There are people, but it's not crowded. We sit a while and I wade up and down in transarent water, white sand below.
Very nice indeed, although we aren't sitting on the beach people so we're soon heading back to the apartment for an early supper and our appointment with the sunset at Capo testa.
