Puglia in May - Trani
Tuesday morning in Trani is dedicated to the open air market. This time I buy a couple of bedcovers for the apartments we rent, a dress and a top for five euros for the two and some plastic table cloths. For lunch we plan on Carpe Diem like the previous years but alas it is closed at lunchtime now. More focaccia, of course, and a kebab each of bombette. I also get a small take away version of riso, patate e cozze, but it isn't that good. We eat in our room in B&B Germinario, with a view over the square and the Chiesa Agostiniano di San Sebastiano, white against the deep blue sky.
.....which unexpectedly clouds over after lunch. Rain is threatened so we delay going out. When we eventually get to the cathedral which we have, admittedly visited several times in the past, we are disappointed to see the main part is closed for restoration. We can only have a look at the lower floor and crypt. After a walk along the harbour, we sit for a while in the Villa Comunale park, and then wander back, so relaxed I'm almost late for my evening lesson.
We have been to Trani several times before, as you can see if you put "Trani" in the search section of this Blog. It never disappoints, both in itself, from the cathedral to the historical centre, the walk along the harbour, the Villa Comunale, the food......and as a base to visit nearby towns by car or by train. Each time we visit we find something new. This time it was Trani by dusk: to watch the sun setting onto the cathedral and Trani lighting up in the dusk. Magic! But I'll let the photos do the explaining.....(they're all original, no photoshopping)...
