September 2020 Circeo San Felice Circeo

On the way from Sinalunga to Torre Alveola near San Felice Circeo we stop only for a quick picnic in the shade of the cypresses near the cemetery of Anagni, promising to return at some point in the future to the historical centre which looks enticing. The rest of the day is spent settling in. Since we are staying for a fortnight this time I bother unpacking and we do some shopping for basics. We go for a short walk along the beach towards evening, the sea looks quite nice but there are a surprisingly large amount of people about still.

The next morning we go in search of fish. Expensive. The whole area seems nice but quite expensive. Still, we invest in a Lampuga for lunch. We stay on the very nice terrace of the apartment for most of the day. There is shade, sun, a choice of deckchairs and sunloungers, a nice breeze and a sea view and neither of us fancies the hot, crowded and undoubtedly expensive beach. At about half past four we set off to walk to San Felice Circeo, another of the "Borghi più belli d'Italia". I wonder if one of the reasons why there are, apparently, so many parking problems in the area is due to the fact nobody actually seems to walk.....

It's a bit hot walking up to San Felice, which is yes, well, nice, a tiny old rather than historical centre, a couple of parallel streets, a tower, hmm, nice but one of the most beautiful villages in Italy?

The view of the coast below from the small park does however deserve the adjective beautiful.

We walk down again and stop for some shopping, in particular mozzarella di bufala and ricotta di bufala for supper. By the time we wander back along the beach the sun is setting in the other direction behind the Circeo mountains, there are only a few lingering sunbathers, the breeze is cool and pleasant. Nice.
