Tuscany September 2020 Sinalunga

We set off on a pleasant Sunday morning. The motorway is quite busy but at least there are hardly any lorries. It's hot and it gets progressively hotter. By just after twelve o'clock we are getting off the motorway at San Giovanni Valdarno where the plan is to visit the historical centre. In the end it's just too hot to contemplate leaving the car and walking and we just picnic in the car in some welcome shade with a cool breeze. Unfortunately we can't access the apartment in Sinalunga until 4 p.m. so we continue at a leisurely pace on the ordinary roads in the air-conditioned cool of the car, stopping at the tiny but fascinating hamlet of Badia a Ruoti for a stroll around.

Another stop at Pieve di San Vittore near Rapolano Terme fills in the time. The apartment is stylish and pleasant but we get viciously attacked by mosquitoes as soon as we arrive. It takes a couple of days after filling in the gaps in the mosquito netting to get rid of them.

After a couple of hours of rest and settling in we go for a stroll around Sinalunga, a sleepy village at the top of the hill with fine views of the surrounding countryside and just a few local people enjoying the evening cool.
