San Vincenzo in May

On Monday the sun is shining and so we drive to San Vincenzo and park in one of the few parking spaces near La Barcaccina restaurant and the beach. We head south along the beach. Sky and sea are blue, rolling waves and a keen breeze but it's exhilarating. The sand is firm for walking near the sea but the walkway which runs along the beach by the Riva degli Etruschi resort is even more convenient. We continue to the end of it. A relaxing walk of a couple of kilometres. Only a few sun umbrellas at the very end.

Lunch is at Osteria Christian's which we've visited before on previous trips to the area. This time we aren't so enthusiastic, perhaps because it's cool outside and so we have to eat inside? The spaghetti allo scoglio I remembered have been doused in tomato with irritating and useless pieces of crab tentacle. The cooked vegetables are sad. Only the alici fritti are excellent. We spend 36€ for the fixed menu(15€) plus 1/4litre wine and cover charge and are not enthusiastic. The place is as busy as ever, so maybe it's the best price/quality that San Vincenzo can offer.

There are dark clouds so we digest a little in the warm car before a walk along the windswept beach. It's too cold to think of lying in the sun, so we return to base, where, protected from the wind, the sun is pleasant even if a little hazy, just going out again before supper to collect a TooGoodToGo bag of bread and focaccia. A new experience....but positive.
