Andalucia Day 55 Roses - Cala Montjoi
The weather forecast is too good to linger first thing so we set off from Roses on the Cami de Ronda in the direction of Cadaqués. The path is initially built right on the sea, skirting round the outside of private houses between the buildings and the rocks.
The sun is warm across the waves and it's very pleasant for the beginning of November. After Cayelles it gets even better because the path becomes a proper path in the midst of pine trees and Mediterranean vegetation. We go up and down, always right next to the sea and with spectacular views of the coast.
It takes us almost three hours to walk the 10 kilometres to Cala Montjoi, the pace isn't very quick due to the frequent stops to admire the view.
We stop for our picnic sitting on the step in front of a resort which is closed for the winter. Three more couples of walkers come by while we're sitting there, and one happy cyclist who grins at us as if to say, "isn't this beautiful?". Otherwise our only company is a relaxed seagull who spends most of the time paddling and gazing out to sea just like us.
After lunch we turn inland and walk through a green valley with neglected cork oaks and then up to the south towards Roses. Going up it's absolutely silent without the wind and the waves, just an occasional bird.
We reach the great height of 295 metres and wide views of Roses Bay before turning back down amongst small dolmen and menhirs, which are honestly not very impressive, and dry stone buildings, which are.
The weather has behaved all day, sunny, only a very occasional cloud, some breeze, a splendid day for November. On the final stretch down to Roses our feet are tired. When we finally get up the stairs Andrea's watch shows 19.5 kilometres, a fantastic day.
