Sardinia in May Hiking Naracu Nieddu to Vignola
Last year we did several easy hikes along the coast between Santa Teresa Gallura and Portobello and our favourite was probably the one between Naracu Nieddu and Vignola. So, we decide to repeat it this year. It’s an easy walk, the flowers along the coast are in full bloom, the transparent sea and apricot coloured rocks are spectacular even on a windy day in May.
This time, we walk as far as we can – also along the main street of Vignola, a sleepy hamlet with one hotel with a restaurant and a couple of bars. Here we are stopped, in sight of the tower, because the beach is interrupted by a stream flowing into the sea.
It rained during the week so while maybe it’s usually dry someone coming in the other direction who wades through gets wet well above the knee so we decide to turn back.
The wind is strong and the kite-surfers are out in force, racing across the bay and occasionally flying as they are lifted by the wind and their complicated maneuvers.
We stop for coffee at the bar of Camping Saragosa and then walk back to the car, enjoying the last few hundred metres in the cool of the pinewood, up from the coast to the car park.
Parking is still free this time of the year. It’s an easy drive back to Santa Teresa, there’s very little traffic around this time of the year.
We have a late lunch of more vegetables and the last of the ricotta and then stay in the apartment until about 4. Down at the Rena di Ponente beach there are too many waves to swim and the wind is really quite strong and chilly even though that beach is sheltered when the wind is from the east. A bit later we go back to the Colonne beach but it’s windier there and as always happens when we go there, we don’t really find anywhere enticing to stop, end up on the rocks for the view and then walk home. Later, sunset at Capo Testa
