October 2020 Torriana: Verucchio

Traffic on Sunday is light and apart from work in progress for most of the two lane motorway between Termoli and Porto San Giorgio we make good progress. I brake little, and we find a nice picnic area with a view of the sea in a parking area by the motorway just before Grottammare. A lot nicer than I expected as a lunch stop.

We get in to the apartment in Poggio Torriana for 3.30 pm and need a walk after all the sitting in the car so Andrea suggests walking to Verucchio, a medieval village enticingly perched on top of a hill and of which there is a delightful view from the apartment.

It's actually quite a long walk, and we are a little worried it's going to be dark before we get back, also it's uphill and we haven't done much of that for the last few weeks. But it's nice to be out walking, the contours of the surrounding hills, the autumn colours, a slight mist. Verucchio, despite being one of the 'Borghi più belli d'Italia', is nothing special but we have a quick walk around, without visiting the castle

which costs €4.50 per person and is closing in 10 minutes.

Going downhill speeds up our return journey and creates a good appetite. The apartment has a fireplace, so warming and pleasant while we eat, a really nice place.
