Malaga in November - Day 9 - Museo Municipal, churches and views
Another quiet day is due after the long day in Antequera so we take it easy first thing. Nevertheless, when we do venture out it isn't raining as forecast so before going to do some shopping we go as far as Muelle Uno for a stroll, then stop at Mercado Atarazanas for a couple of soles, then Mercadona for a few last things before lunch.
After lunch I feel in need of extra coffee so we go to El Jardín near the cathedral which fascinates us from outside. It's a café restaurant with its own unique style and for some reason it's a perfect moment. There are just four or five other customers, a pianist playing the music he enjoys playing, outside it's drizzling and the few people walking by peer in at the windows, the café con leche is bitingly hot and strong and I am suddenly so happy that my lurking headache unexpectedly disappears.
We leave slightly tipsy without having drunk and go to the Museo Municipal which is a modern building further along past Museo de Málaga and the gardens at the bottom of one of the walkways up to the castle. Once again it's free to go in and the visit starts at the top with a video maqueda about the history of the city. On the same floor there's some really quite nice contemporary art (yes!)and below on the third some older paintings. The first floor is dedicated to the symbols of Málaga and a video, this time with subtitles in English and Spanish and there's a temporary exhibition on the ground floor. It's easy to spend an hour or so. When we come out we go up to the castle. It's quite a steep walk but it's warming and the views all over Málaga and the bullring and port are well worth the effort.

We don't go in because it's quite late and we visited it on our previous trip to Malaga in March 2018. It's getting dark by the time we come down but once again it seems a pity to turn in for the evening so we wander around the centre and also visit Iglesia de Los Mártires, interesting both out and in. We buy a few things to take home, Pan di higos and a small ceramic toro which we find in a charity shop. Finally we stop to look in at the Gothic style Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón which was actually finished in 1920,
Málaga seems to have such a lot to see, it's impossible to be bored....
