Malaga in November - Day 4 Huelin and Playa Misericordia
This morning's destination is Huelin market and gardens to the west side of Málaga. We walk down the riverside past the Ibis and NH hotels than turn right towards Maria Zambrano station carrying on as far as the Huelin market. It's an easy walk. The market turns out to be like a lot of other markets, the usual excellent selection of fresh foodstuffs including fish, nothing in particular different and prices more or less similar to Mercado Atarazanas. From there we head towards the sea front, just for a look really, but make a pleasant discovery. The sea front heading west is really pleasant, a couple of promenades in one, a separate cycle path, landscaping and benches everywhere, very pleasant indeed and from Huelin west no bothersome noise of traffic either because the main road is well away from the sea front.
The weather in Málaga is unusually cold and the wind is quite strong but when the sun escapes a few passing clouds it's a very pleasant walk. An old chimney has been left to bear testimony to Malaga's industrial past. Looking up at it it's so tall it almost seems to move in the breeze......or do we need to eat a couple of pipas?
We go to the end of the promenade before turning back. So it's a long walk, almost twelve kilometres return by the time we get back, but very enjoyable.

For lunch I cook secreto ibérico and then we rest a while so it's almost 3 by the time we go out. A leisurely walk is in order for the afternoon so we go down to Muelle Uno where a Christmas market, surprisingly mostly selling inexpensive clothes, has just opened. It's warm and sheltered from the wind. Afterwards we go back to Museo de Málaga and finish looking at the history floor before tackling at least some of the paintings on the first floor. It's surprisingly tiring to look around museums and it's nice that this one is free and one can return and see it a bit at a time. In the store room on the ground floor, which can also be visited and has some interesting 'odds and ends', there are a couple of the panels which make up the roof to look at close up.
Next stop is Antigua Casa de la Guardia where we both choose Guinda, a Moschatel but with the addition of morello cherry branches which give it a special cherry flavor. It's a mixture of different wines according to a secret recipe dating from 1840. Can I taste the cherry? Perhaps, or is it because I know there's something cherryish about it? Delicious, it's delicious....
On the way home we buy some crisps, the wind is really quite cold and strong and we are happy to turn in for the night.
