Malaga in March Day 7 Torremolinos

Over the weekend we had relied on Mercadona for fish and all the rest but of course on Tuesday the Mercado de Abastos Atarazanas is open again so we are able to stock up for an excellent and early lunch.
After some indecision about whether to go in the direction of Nerja or to the opposite more touristy side we take the Cercanías train to Torremolinos. The weather is not excellent but it looks like it could be dry. When we get off the train in Torremolinos we find ourselves in a square mostly filled with restaurants with menus in English and mostly British people. We wander off in the wrong direction, yes down towards the sea but along a depressing road lined with scruffy apartment blocks and not much else. There are very few people around and we are not impressed with the town or the seafront, once again a long line of big hotels and apartment blocks, bars and shops, mostly closed. It's depressing and I'm regretting coming, but we follow some signs back for the old town and walk up a pleasant enough little street with shops which are open and up into the main shopping area, where, once again things are open and it's ok. We stop for a coffee but get nowhere ordering mitad and sombra, they look at us as if we were decidedly odd, probably we are too far from Malaga!
After, we want a good walk before travelling home tomorrow so go back down to the seafront and start walking on the beach towards Malaga.

The sand is a darkish colour but good for walking, few people around, a greyish day but big waves and the sound of the sea and occasional groups of palm trees, it's enjoyable.

We continue along the promenade as far as Los Alamos, which is a quiet residential area of low rise buildings and then get the Cercanias train back to Malaga for a last stop at Antigua Casa de Guardia. There are always a few people, not just foreign tourists, though, plenty of Spanish, whether local or tourists I don't know. After a last stroll around the cathedral area to look at the lights in the dark we go back to the flat to clean and pack. Tomorrow we go back home.
