Malaga in March: Day 6

Sunday evening the dark clouds had won again but Monday morning the weather is bright and sunny. In the morning we walk around the centre to have a sunny look at places we had seen in the rain. The centre of  Malaga is full of typical Andalucian buildings, up to 4 or 5 storeys with narrow balconies with railings, some windowed in to make a mini-conservatory, we have a look at the touristy shops near the Cathedral and admire the Palacios nearby, the towers of flowers in calle Larios, more shops in the back streets. Then, after an early lunch we set off towards Malagueta. We go past the majestic Ayuntamiento (Town Hall),

through Parque de Malaga, a leafy green area with flowers even in March and then head along Muelle Uno, where we stop in the Ale-Hop shop. Not so different from Tiger but perhaps nicer design and writing in Spanish on the objects, from mugs to pencil cases to bags. We also stop for a coffee, well Sombra for me and Mitad for Andrea, while most people are still finishing their lunch. It's a breezy day but the sun is inspiring. Malgueta is a small promontory of unexpectedly highrise and ugly buildings but it's enough to look along the coast, out to sea, or at the port and Muelle area to avoid them.

We walk along the beach itself and stop on some grass under the palm trees to tentatively sunbathe a little, but the wind is quite cool and we eventually move on and try out some of the gym equipment along the seafront. Dark clouds are looming as we make a dash for the shelter of the Muelle Uno shops but it's just a quick shower and it stops in time for us to go to Antigua Casa de Guardia where we have progressed to lagrima transaejo, and of course a small glass of Vermut, which is definitely a major discovery of our trip to Malaga before which I would never even have considered drinking Vermut. It tastes, yes, of sherry wine but also of dry herbs and spices and is absolutely delicious. Both are warming and we walk back towards the apartment along the side of the river bed which has only a trickle of water despite all the rain.
