Javea in February
On Sunday morning we take it easy and go for a long stroll on the Paseo Les Rotes. It’s a beautiful morning, sunny, mild, a brilliant blue sea and great waves sending up spray into the air like mist. We walk, then sit, then walk, fantastic.
For lunch we have “Rabo de Toro” from Consum supermarket. We tried one racion divided by two which was good, but a portion each with plenty of bread for the delicious sauce is better. We then spend quite a long time working out the best way from Valencia airport to our apartment in the centre the next day.
So it’s half past two when we set off for Javea. It’s a quiet drive. Most people are eating or resting at this time on a Sunday in Spain. We find easy parking just above the historical centre which is deserted but nice. Elegant houses painted white but with elegant carved sandstone portals, decorations and window frames.
There are several interesting buildings – the San Bartolomeo church, the library, many palacios in the narrow streets. Definitely worth a visit. After walking up and down and taking some photos - on Sunday afternoon after 2 or 3 pm everything is closed in Spain, so we can’t see inside the church, or anywhere else, we drive down to the sea.
The beach is spectacular – steep and stony with enormous waves crashing on the rocks at the base of the stones. But it’s not comfortable to walk on the stones and heading right, where it’s sunny, there isn’t a paseo, just a pavement next to the road or the stony beach or a bit less stony part nearer the road.
