Costa degli Etruschi May 2021 - Cecina and Tombolo pinewood
On Tuesday I have some work to do first thing so we set off to the market in Cecina quite late and then spend ages looking for a parking space. We are in search of fish but there are only two stalls so we manage with a few cuttlefish. The market is unremarkable but I find an orange Indian cloth for my sofa. I fry the cuttlefish, so lunch is late again, but nowhere near as late as the day before.
After lunch it's just a short drive to the Tomboli of Cecina, a vast pinewood just behind the beach. The main lane through the pinewood is very wide and with the arched branches of the pine trees above is a fine perspective. We walk a while, and have a quick look at the small arboretum, which is rather neglected. Then we deviate out onto the beach.
The beach has been left to itself, so, nice, no buildings, no sun umbrellas and the pinewood vegetation just behind. The sea is a satisfying blue and the sand not too dark. We are always critical and tend to compare anywhere and everywhere with Gargano and Sardinia but it's quite nice here. Although, the sea must be eroding away the roots of the pines nearest to the sea because there's a lot of dead wood along the beach and dead trees still standing right on the beach. All in all the pinewood is more beautiful than the beach.
It's time to be getting back because I have to work but it's a pleasant place to spend the afternoon.
