Puglia - Daunia in September - Vieste Trip Report

Vieste in September 2021 trip report

It's not the first time we come to Vieste and will most probably not be the last. Nevertheless, Vieste is inconvenient to reach from the Alps. After hurtling down the motorway which after intense and aggressive traffic eventually follows the Adriatic coast slaloming between tunnels and roadworks for 8 or 9 hours you get at least an hour on a narrow winding road where overtaking either the lorry or the coach in front of us would be suicidal let alone both.
But Vieste is worth the trouble. The three kilometre Scialara beach would be nice even without the spectacular view of Vieste on its cliff at the end. Shallow sea for several metres, golden sand, the long walk from one end to another, it's one of my favourite beaches.
Our week in Vieste is for relaxing and we do just that although we also manage a walk along the coast similar to the one two years ago,

several strolls along the beach and of course around Vieste itself.

Of a pale magnolia coloured stone Vieste perches on its cliffs just above the sea and affords interesting corners or splendid views whichever way you turn.

Vieste in September

Vieste in SeptemberIt's difficult to get bored wandering the narrow streets late afternoon when the sun is low behind the beach and the sun contemplating setting. It's just a beautiful place. Vieste in September is perfect for us, the weather warm enough to relax on the beach during the day and for me to swim but not too hot. Enough people around for the beach loungers to still be out but not enough to make our walk along the beach crowded. Perfect!
