Lido Adriano

On the way back from Gargano and Villa Rosa we decide to stop off near Ravenna to break up the journey and visit the city. We find an Airbnb apartment at Lido Adriano which is just an easy twenty minute drive from Ravenna. On the drive up there's unexpectedly a lot of traffic, a lot of roadworks, spitting or heavy rain and a strong wind so perhaps we are not psychologically in an excellent frame of mind but the apartment is the most expensive of our trip and definitely the least inspiring. Everything, while clean, is very basic and also in need of attention, it's a little depressing somehow, as is our first glimpse of Lido Adriano in early October. All the Lidos are boarded up, and some of the shops, and the beach has a view of two miniature oil rigs.

Nevertheless we persist south along the beach. The sun has come out and there are one or two people strolling. The boarded up Lidos gradually disappear to leave fields and countryside and we arrive at the mouth of a river where there are interesting buildings on stilts with trabucco-like systems of fishing nets.

With the high waves behind and the scudding clouds it's nice enough to feel the afternoon is worthwhile. We stop at the nearest supermarket, Lidl for a few supplies and then plan our day in Ravenna.
