Sevilla in January Day 3 Sunday markets
Sunday morning is even colder but we set out with enthusiasm in search of markets. There are some stands of artists in front of Museo de Bellas Artes and we stop to look, despite the cold. Then we head across the less elegant bridge to Paseo de Nuestra Senora del O, or Paseo del Arte in Triana next to the river.
A handful of stalls and more cold. We go home for lunch and to warm up. We’ve walked several kilometres which is positive, but are cold, which isn’t. Before going inside we have a look at the San Esteban church which is just in front of our apartment – the view is the nice thing about the apartment.
In the afternoon we take the short route straight down the main road to Parque Maria Luisa, at the far end of which is the Zoco, another market. More stalls, mostly homemade articles and clothes for women and children. Since we’ve come so far, we go to look at the gardens between the Archaeological Museum, which is closed for rebuilding, and the Museo de Artes y Costumbres which is about to close but is interesting from the outside.
The gardens are pretty, as is the rest of the park, very well-tended even in January. We remember some places for our previous visit: Jardines de los leones, the ‘monte’, the pretty pond area with ducks and a pagoda. It’s very very nice.
After wandering for a while we go back to Plaza de Espana, this time sitting in the Jaen space which is closer for listening to the flamenco in the background. The sun has disappeared behind the clouds so we eventually stroll back along the main road, buying a couple of things on the way.
