Puglia in May Torre Canne and Ostuni
After so many months it's time to see the sea so we go to Torre Canne, about 5 minutes by car. A small hamlet, houses built right onto the beach. A sea front of sorts to walk along and perhaps the sea looks quite transparent but unregulated urbanisation has spoiled it. We drive a little further down the coast and try the beach again. Here there are just fields behind and a spot of golden sand, not bad but nothing spectacular. We go home for lunch, roast lamb and new potatoes.
After lunch we drive to Ostuni which we visited on a previous trip to Brindisi in November 2017. In the May sunshine it's very different, lots of tourists, some loaded into Ape cars to be taken to the top of the village, noisier than our magic previous visit. But we wander some of the quieter streets and around the walls and sit to look at the view and people going by before going to the sea again.
We try Villanova, not so different from Torre Canne, and then find the entrance to the Park of Dune Costiere but it's all a little overgrown. The long strip of beach seems ok, it's being cleaned. Time to go home for a relaxing dinner on the terrace and then some work.
